Can you hike in Hakone in the rain? Many walks go ahead in light rain, but wet cobblestones, roots and steps need extra care. Unsafe weather or trail closures can mean a changed route or cancellation. Check conditions and messages from Aki before travelling.
Light rain
Many Hakone walks can continue in light rain. Forests can feel especially atmospheric, but cobblestones, roots and wooden steps may be slippery. Bring a waterproof jacket, quick-drying layers and shoes with reliable grip. Loan rain jackets may be available if requested before the tour.
Unsafe conditions
Typhoon conditions, heavy rain or snow warnings, lightning, strong wind, trail closures and volcanic alerts can make a tour unsafe. Aki monitors conditions and may adjust the route. If we cancel for unsafe conditions, you choose a full refund or a new date. A new date is subject to availability; your refund choice is not.
If you decide to cancel
For direct bookings made under our current terms, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled start, Japan time, for a full refund. One free date change is available by the same deadline, subject to availability. Less than 24 hours before the start: no refund or free date change. No-shows receive no refund or rescheduling.
Bookings confirmed before 12 October 2026 keep their original terms. Bookings through Viator, Airbnb, GetYourGuide or Klook follow that platform’s policy. See the full cancellation policy.
What to do before your tour
- Check messages from Aki before leaving your accommodation.
- Do not rely only on a city forecast; mountain conditions can differ.
- Keep your schedule flexible when severe weather is possible.
- Contact Aki if transport disruption affects your meeting time.
